First Annual Folk Festival
The Monterey Jazz Festival (MJF), in Monterey, California, is one of the world's longest consecutively running jazz festivals. It debuted on October 3, 1958 and was founded by San Francisco jazz radio broadcaster Jimmy Lyons.
The festival is held annually on the third full weekend in September.
More than 500 top jazz artists perform on nine stages spread throughout the grounds, with more than 50 concert performances. The Monterey Jazz Festival also features jazz conversations, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, etc... spread throughout the 20-acre (81,000 m2) Monterey Fairgrounds.
On 18 May 1963, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez performed a duet on With God On Our Side.
