* BOB DYLAN'S GREATEST HITS VOLUME 3

     The novel begins with the date September 1, 2001. This is the day of the fire at a multi-use building in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, which killed 44 people, and ends with the date September 11 of the same year, which is, needless to say, the day of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
     Set in a used record store in Nishi-Shinjuku, this work depicts a fictional time sandwiched between these two real events, and what emerges here is the strange face of everyday life. In a world that has lost the mechanism by which time is activated by the repetition of "hare" and "ke" as folklore speaks, there is only a flat everyday life, and we are "standing on a slope," living in a place where it takes effort just to keep from falling down.
     Extraordinary events will certainly occur. But they will not change the everyday life. Even "recovery" from "3/11" can only be accomplished calmly in the midst of everyday life. This work conveys the intense presence of an immortal monster, the never-ending everyday life

Novel by Akio Miyazawa, Shinchosha, 2011, hardback with obi, 230 pages. ISBN 9784103974048
