MAARTEN GILTAY VETH Artworks

   These booklets are artworks, handmade by the Dutch artist and Dylan fan Maarten Giltay Veth.
   Maarten is doing all the work himself. He has various types of letters and numbers, from different materials, wooden letters and lead letters, in various different sizes and typefaces. He does the typesetting himself, all by hand, and prints on his Korrex Stuttgart Press in his studio, page for page, colour for colour. Every side of every page is printed separately on high quality thick paper, and the binding is done by hand.

TANGLED UP IN BLUE (Three Volumes, 2018-2020)

   The first book (2018) was dedicated to the song Tangled Up In Blue only. The series continued with two other volumes: still with mostly blue colour, volumes 2 (2019) and 3 (2020) present lino-cuts with titles and lines of other Dylan songs.

   Each volume has 16 pages, 40 copies only were made. More information (in Dutch) here.

ROUGH AND ROWDY (2020)

   Handmade booklet with text (in Dutch) by Tom Willems. 8 pages, 100 numbered copies only. Tom Willems wrote a short piece in the form of an open letter to 'Mister D.', to thank him for bringing older writings by other artists to our attention and for all those nice songs that he gave us over the years.

BRINGING IT ALL BACK (2021)

   Handmade booklet, with text by Tom Willems. 8 pages plus a cover.
The text in Dutch is a short essay in the form of an open letter to 'Mister D.' as a wish for his 80th birthday, ending with 'Happy Birthday, mister D.' The total print run is 80 numbered copies only and it comes with 4 different covers.

NIEUWE MORGEN (2021)

   'NEW MORNING': This small 4-page booklet (11 x 16 cm) was made to celebrate Bob turning 80; on the back it has three times the figure '80' in lightgray. It uses a short poem by Huib Giltay Veth, Maarten's brother, where he describes what Dylan has meant for him. There are 23 hand-numbered copies, privately circulated only.

HEMELS BLAUW (2022)

   'Hemels Blauw' means 'Sky Blue'. March 2022: part of a printers-project around the theme KLEUR (colour). Only 20 numbered copies were made. It has 8 pages plus the cover, 15 x 23 cm. It's around one line of the song New Morning in English and its Dutch translation by Robbert-Jan Henkes and Erik Bindervoet. [0224]

iF dOGS rUN fREE (2023)

   Lettering, printing, binding are all hand made. 8 pages only including the cover, size 12 x 24 cm. There are 28 numbered copies only. All the lettering is presented in capitals, except for the first letter of each word which is in lower case. [0224]

SUBTERRANEAN HOMESICK BLUES (2024)

   10,5 x 15 cm, full song lyrics, all typeset by hand playing with different fonts, corpses and colours to match with Dylan's freely playing with words and rhymes. A nice linocut on the cover, with 56 pages inside. Hand-printed, limited to 40 hand-numbered copies only. [0424]
